Troubleshooting • Re: Pi 5 USB and HDMI switching off - possible heat issue

Hi,

I did re-run the tests and this time ther was no HDMI/screen problem.

It's hard to know if the SSD is still working (or not) once the mouse stops working - can't run anything or look at anything.

But I did get some clear data:

AOK until the air inside the case got to c. 30C.

Once above that the mouse started cutting in and out; and stopped working completely once the case air temperature reached 35C.

Kept running the test: CPU temperature eventually stabalized at 55C with case air temperature at 40C in room temperature of : that's about right in room temperature of 20C with the case backplate being cooled by convection in static air on the outside, and the air inside being cooled by forced convection (60 mm fan) on the case backplate inside face.

I tried a different mouse, connected directly to two different USB ports: nothing worked until the case air temperatue dropped to 30C ( I took the case backplate off) whereupon the mouse started working again whichever way I plugged it in.

All this took several hours. It does not make a lot of sense to me.

I'll replace the Pi 5 next; and if that has no effect I'll try the updates (though I did install all the latest updates last night).
